Who is Joe McGee?
Hello, I am Joe McGee, a local business owner, tireless community advocate, father, and Papa (granddad).

Since childhood, I have been a conscious thinker, a self-starter, and someone who naturally connects with others, unknowingly laying the foundation for my journey. At a young age, from cutting grass to selling encyclopedias to helping others and making new friends, the spirit of entrepreneurship and networking was naturally in me.

A native of Philadelphia, I grew up in Fayetteville and graduated from Seventy First High School in 86'. Having been introduced to jazz music and motivational tapes, one of my favorites was Les Brown's story of persistence and preparation. His story led me to my first big job as an account executive with Foxy 99. The world of radio sales and entertainment eventually led me to start my own limousine service, night club, and host Jazz Networking events at the iconic DeLafayette Restaurant and on the rooftop of the infamous Prince Charles Hotel in downtown Fayetteville with the legendary Malachi Sharpe.

As a single father, I raised my oldest daughter and son. I leaned on my village and raised respectful, responsible children despite the pressures and misconceptions society places on single parents. For over 30 years, I have been on the front lines for my family, friends, and community. From organizing hurricane relief efforts to Black History Quiz Bowls for the youth and hosting social community events, I have done the work.

I have dedicated my life to helping others quietly, and now I am ready to bring that same passion, commitment, and resilience to District 9 and the City of Fayetteville.

I do not believe in just talking about what "They need to do" - "I am They".

My history-making “Ride 2 Freedom” convoy:
In February 2011, I organized the "Ride to Freedom" convoy. Following the Black History Quiz Bowl, we recognized African-American veterans with an escorted convoy to the Airborne & Special Operations Museum, courtesy of The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office motorcade. The following February (2012), to commemorate and celebrate the returning soldiers from the "War on Iraq," we made the convoy inclusive.

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow Show took notice of this act of inclusivity. The "Ride 2 Freedom" convoy made national news and history, as Fayetteville became the second city in America to honor the soldiers with a homecoming. (Rachel Maddow clip)

That year, President Obama publicly commended Fayetteville, North Carolina for its valiant initiative to honor American soldiers.

Special appreciation to Sheriff Ennis W. Wright and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office for their years of escorting "Ride 2 Freedom" convoys.
